This is because they are looking for a place to settle down and stay warm for the winter. Unfortunately for us, an attic is the perfect place for furry critters like these to make their home until spring. While they may look cute, flying squirrels are not animals you want to have running around your attic.

Flying squirrels can cause a number of problems. Problems include:

  • Producing foul odors
  • Chewing on wood and wires
  • Ruining insulation
  • Leaving urine and droppings
  • Spreading parasites and various diseases

Flying squirrels live in greater numbers compared to regular gray squirrels, so a flying squirrel infestation has the potential to do more damage. Because they are smaller and can glide, flying squirrels may also have an easier time gaining access to your attic.

How to Know if You Have Flying Squirrels in Your Attic

Flying squirrels are nocturnal so they are most active at night. You should be able to hear them squeaking or scratching around in the attic at night or early in the morning. They may also move into the walls so make sure you listen closely to find out exactly where they are.

Getting Rid of Flying Squirrels

Before the flying squirrels can be removed, the entire home’s exterior must be animal proofed. This will prevent them from reentering through another passage once they’ve been evicted.

For the removal process, we recommend that you use one-way exit tunnels. They are easy to install and allow the animal to climb out but prevent it from coming back in. This method is both humane and effective.

All you have to do is call Attic Kings. We’ll come out to your house and handle it from there.

After the Flying Squirrels Have Been Removed

Once the flying squirrels have left the attic, we will remove the tunnels and animal proof the area. We will also restore your attic by removing the old, ruined insulation and install new, fresh insulation. Our insulation vacuum makes this process go very quickly and enables us to install the insulation without having to walk through your home. Installing new insulation will prevent diseases and bacteria from spreading.

We will also use a deodorizing spray to remove whatever odors may still linger.
